The Textile Museum recently received donations of two major private collections—one of Central Asian ikat fabrics and one of Chinese ethnic costumes.
The Village is pleased to announce that Lee Talbot, the Museum’s Curator specializing in East Asian Textiles and an FBWEV favorite from the tour he gave us of the new Museum’s opening show in April 2015, will lead a tour just for us of the recently mounted exhibits of these two new collections.
“Binding the Clouds: The Art of Central Asian Ikat”: Across Central Asia, oasis towns were once awash with the rainbow colors of ikat fabrics. Through exceptional artworks recently donated to the museum by Dr. Guido Goldman, this exhibition focuses on the sophisticated art of dyeing known in this region as abrband (“binding the clouds”).
“Vanishing Traditions: Textiles and Treasures from Southwest China:” For centuries, minority cultures in southwest China have donned elaborate textiles, jewelry, and accessories for community celebrations. Dazzling festival costumes donated to the museum’s collections by Bea Roberts explore traditions now endangered by modernization.
Cost: A donation of $5.00 per participant. (The Village is underwriting a portion of the admission fee.) Please note that the $5.00 is not refundable if you cancel at any time. When you register you will find instructions on how to make your payment

Accessibility: The Textile Museum is completely accessible.
Members only.
Registration is required. We can accommodate 20 Villagers on this tour so register ASAP!
