Tour: National Zoo (Elephants)
Monday, October 16, 2017, 10:00 AM
3001 Connecticut Ave NW
The Village will go to the National Zoo for a tour of the elephant exhibit and a talk about the zoo's six Asian elephants. Villager Jane Scholz, a long time zoo docent, will give the tour and talk followed by a Q&A. Even if you came the last time we held this program, you should come back to learn about elephant reproduction and the zoo's efforts to produce an elephant baby in the next few years...along with many other interesting facts about the species.
We will meet at the Elephant Community Center at 10 am. After the talk, Villagers will have the option of attending the daily elephant training demo, which requires a downhill walk of about a quarter-mile. (Of course, the walk back to the parking lot will be uphill.)
The zoo is at 3001 Connecticut Ave NW, about a half-mile walk from both the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park Metro stations (Red Line).
Participants should park in B Lot, as close to the west end as possible, which is a short walk to the exhibit. Both the parking lot and the exhibit are wheelchair and walker accessible. Admission to the zoo is free, but parking costs $22 per car unless you are a FONZ (Friends of National Zoo) member.
