With the State of the Union address approaching, I’ve been thinking about the “State of FBWE Village Membership.” I’m happy to report that our Village membership is strong and growing.
The Village added 25 new members in 2017. We’re off to a good start this year with two new members in January, bringing our total to 147 members.
I expect the Village can add another 25 members in 2018. It’s a big job, and we have a terrific Membership Committee made up of Anna Chisman, Christina Farnsworth, Sasha Mabry, Linda Mazzochi and Leah Schroeder. Villager Laurie Landy assists with referrals from Watergate West, where she is on their new resident committee. Trevor Neve continues to reach out to our male prospects, inviting them to attend a men’s GOAL lunch.
The Membership Committee, along with Leigh, will be hosting several Village Information Sessions around the neighborhood in the coming weeks. These will be good opportunities for people who live in Foggy Bottom and the West End to learn more about us. Folks new to the neighborhood, approaching retirement, or experiencing other major life changes often find the Village especially appealing.
We do rely heavily on member prospect referrals from you, our Villagers. So if you know of a friend, neighbor, family member or someone else who may be interested in knowing more about FBWEV, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
; contact Leigh at email@example.com
; or speak with someone on the Membership Committee. Keep in mind that the Village also offers reduced-fee memberships based on an individual's financial circumstances.
If your referral joins, the Village will thank you with a month of free membership.
Now, let’s get back to all of our new Village members. Starting today, we’ll begin introducing them in the Director’s Notes with a photo and brief bio. (See future Director's Notes for additional members.)
It’s always rewarding getting to know our members, as Villagers have such varied and interesting lives. If there’s a “face to put with a name,” it will be easier for all of us to introduce ourselves. I hope you will join me in welcoming our new members to the Village community.
