FBWEV and The Grand Gesture of Russian Concert Music

Thomas G Sullivan  | Published on 4/9/2015

After a season of lectures by Saul Lilienstein covering major Western classical composers, Villagers attended the final lecture held on April 4 which featured the music of Russian composers as well as the back stories of both the composers and their music.   The history and culture of Russia showed through in the music of such great 20th century composers as Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich.  The lecture was titled “The Grand Gesture of Russian Concert Music” and, indeed, the music was grand.

The Village is grateful to the Kennedy Center for providing Villagers the opportunity to experience these enlightening and enjoyable talks by Saul Lilienstein.
