Behind the Scenes at the American History Museum…and more
In July, FBWE Village organized a tour of part of the American History Museum that few visitors see. It was led by Dwight Bowers, Curator of Culture and the Arts, who is widely published and has received 3 NARAS Grammy Award nominations.
The tour focused on the Museum’s hidden treasures related to movies, the theater, and TV not on view to the general public. Drawers were opened to reveal Sylvester Stallone’s in boxing gloves and shoes in Rocky; a beautiful pair of Marilyn Monore’s very long white gloves; Edith Bunker’s chair from All in the Family; Carol Channing’s faux jewel-encrusted gown from Hello Dolly; numerous items from The Wizard of Oz; a costume that lit up by squeezing two hand prongs which was worn by Mistoffelees in the musical Cats and the complete files of Phyllis Diller’s jokes — 55,000 of them!
There’s more Village fun to come. Join your neighbors for a cruise on that beautiful river right down the street on Saturday, August 3 from 6 to 7 PM. Play the two nine-hole mini golf courses at the National Building Museum and stick around for barbecue afterwards. Tuesday, August 7 from 11 AM to 1 PM.
