Villagers participate in Black History Month

Published on 2/10/2014
On February 6th more then 15 FBWEV members and volunteers were treated to a lecture by historian Professor C.R. Gibbs. Professor Gibbs recounted the journey of a free man, Solomon Northup, the subject of the award winning film, 12 Years a Slave, who was kidnapped into slavery in Washington DC in 1840. Professor Gibbs pinpointed the exact location of incidents depicted in Northup’s book, highlighted individuals from history who supported and worked against slavery, and commented on where the popular film differed from actual history.

Check out our events calendar and plan to participate in future programs.
