Wellness Series with Dr. James Cooper
Twenty-five FBWE Villagers attended Dr. James Cooper’s May 8 lecture on fostering healthy minds as we age.
Dr. Cooper, Clinical Professor of Medicine at GWU, Medical Center, reviewed the US Dept. of Agriculture’s recommendations of reducing salt, saturated fat, trans fats, added sugars, refined grains, and alcohol consumption in light of actual science-based evidence. Some findings were expected; others surprising — such as 75% of people with heart disease also have dementia. My take-away is that you are what you eat, so choose wisely. The healthy refreshments helped seal the message.
