Living Car-Free In DC
Tuesday, July 23, 2019, 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM
West End Library, 2301 L Street NW
There are lots of reasons to live car-free in Washington. You save money, promote health and safety, and practice environmental good citizenship. Nevertheless, the decision to give up your car can be daunting as there are practical considerations: fear of losing your independence; figuring out new paths to familiar destinations; navigating among a bewildering variety of public transit possibilities.
This new program will address each of these issues as you learn how to get from “here to there” safely without owning a car.
- how to get and use a SmartCard for bus and Metro
- learning what’s available in the FBWE Village neighborhood
- accessing city buses and trains
- taking taxis or car-sharing (Car2Go, Lyft, Turo, Uber, ZipCar)
- using regional transit systems (ART, DASH, MARC, RideOn and VRE)
You’ll be abIe to put what you learn into practice as we aim to plan future “car-free” expeditions to explore areas of interest beyond Washington’s Monumental Core. Experience the benefits of being part of a national and global car-free movement -- and mark your calendars to celebrate National Car-free Weekend on September 21-22, 2019.
