Dr. William L. Kincaid, a member of our village, will present a talk on “The Opioid Crisis–Who is at fault? What should be done?” This will be followed by time for questions and answers.

Recent articles in many newspapers and periodicals have highlighted the growing opioid problem. The rising number of deaths from overdoses has had an enormous impact for some at personal level and certainly for society as a whole. The causes of the problem are many and there is plenty of blame to go around. Pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, the medical profession, hospital credentialing agencies, complex societal issues, and governments at the local, state and national level have all played a role in allowing this complicated issue to grow into one of the leading causes of death in America. This is a uniquely American problem. The number of deaths from opioids now surpasses deaths from motor vehicle accidents.

William L. Kincaid, MD, MPH, FACP is retired and currently a resident of The Foggy Bottom Neighborhood in Washington DC. During his 45-year career as a physician he has served as the Director of Health for the City of St. Louis, a hospital board member, a Medicaid managed care medical director, and served on several local non-profit boards. He was on the faculty of the Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice where he was in the Health Policy Section.

Accessibility: There is a lift to the left of the building entrance.
