Journalism Editor and Publisher
Jane had 41 years of increasing responsibility, leadership and accomplishment in print and electronic publishing, working for Knight-Ridder, Inc. and the McClatchy Company. For more than 20 years in Washington, DC, Jane was the Editor-in-Chief of the McClatchy / Tribune Information Services, a fast-growing news, photo, and graphics service. She took their services primarily targeted at U.S. print newspapers into new media, including on-line products and foreign markets.
Jane and her late husband, Doug Balz, moved to Foggy Bottom in 2009 and joined the Village when it first began. Jane says, "It's been a great way to meet people and join in the life of the neighborhood. I plan to spend the rest of my life in Foggy Bottom, so the quality of life here and my ability to 'age in place' is very important to me."
Joining the Board of Directors will enable Jane to help the Village serve the many seniors (and soon-to-be seniors) like her who call this neighborhood "home." Jane plans to use her business management, her non-profit board, and her customer relations experience to assist the Village.
